Hot Air Balloon Day

The hot air balloon is one of the oldest forms of flight. Invented in 1783 the ballon consists of an envelope that contains the hot air and a basket where passengers ride as well as a means for creating hot air. The hot air balloon works as the hot air in the balloon floats in the cold air outside as the hot air is lighter.

Today, June 5th is hot air balloon day. While most of us will not be able to take a hot air balloon ride we can celebrate the day by checking out travel and leisure magazines. I also thought this would be an opportune time to share with a festival here in Illinois.

With over 40 hot air balloons this will make for a great day. The festival will also share fireworks, craft fair, a car show, cardboard boat races and special activities for children. If you are looking for a new experience with lots of fun keep the Centralia Illinois Balloon Fest in mind. Takes place August 2016
